Model United Nations
Model United Nations is a 3-day conference that is part of the YMCA’s Youth-in-Government program. By participating in Model United Nations, students have the opportunity to simulate the United Nations and debate international issues. This past year's Model United Nations included 700 students in grades 7 through 12 from all around the state!
How Does It Work?
Students register in countries. Country groups can be from 1 to 7 students. Registration opens in January and then we begin to meet with our school delegation. In delegation meetings, students research their countries and write position papers on two topics that will be debated during the conference.
The conference takes place at the Minneapolis Marriott for three days of intense debate, building lasting friendships and having fun during the session. At the end of the day, students participate in evening activities including: carnival games, crafts, movies, and karaoke.
