To report a student absence:

1. Parents/guardians are urged to call before noon each day their student is absent. For students in grades K-6 please call the Elementary School (612-260-2662 or email k6attendance@afsak12.com) and for students in 7th-12th grade please call the High School (651-209-3910 email hsattendance@afsak12.com).

2. Please include the following information when calling:

  • Your name and relationship to your student.
  • Your absent student’s name and grade.
  • Day (Monday-Friday) and date of absence.
  • Reason for absence.
  • A daytime phone number where you may be reached which allows us to verify your call, if needed.

3. If one is unable to contact the attendance office on the day of their student's absence, parents/guardians are to send a signed note with their child when that child returns to school following an absence. The signed note should include:

  • Student's name (First and Last)
  • Grade
  • Date(s) of absence
  • Reason(s) for absence
  • A daytime phone number where you may be reached which allows us to verify your call, if needed.

Failure to bring a note will result in an unexcused absence. Absences for appointments with health care professionals require a signed note from the health care professional’s office. Most health care providers have specific forms used for this purpose. Please remember to ask for a note at the time of the appointment.

Calls or notes to excuse an absence must occur within three (3) days of an absence or the absence will be permanently listed as unexcused.
