Mathematicians seek and use patterns to formulate new conjectures; they resolve the truth or falsity of conjectures by mathematical proof. When mathematical structures are good models of real phenomena, then mathematical reasoning can provide insight or predictions about nature. Through the use of abstraction and logic, mathematics developed from counting, calculation, measurement, and the systematic study of the shapes and motions of physical objects. Practical mathematics has been a human activity from as far back as written records exist. The research required to solve mathematical problems can take years or even centuries of sustained inquiry.

Hello, I'm Owen Albin and this is my second year at AFSA! This will be my 4th year teaching and I'm very excited to help students grow this year. I graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth in the spring of 2020. Outside of school I spend time with my wife, my son (a toddler so another full time job...), and my black lab. I love being outdoors, running, hiking, canoeing, you name it!

I am a veteran teacher (this is year 28, yes I am old).  I am excited to be teaching math.  In my free time I like to cook, to bake, and cuddling with my one remaining cat, Niklas Catstrom.  I have recently gotten into Werewolf Romance Novels.  I am a HUGE Minnesota Wild fan, Nik was named after former goalie Nik Backstrom

Hello! I am Rasha Mae, and this is my fourth year as a math teacher at AFSA! I have a 5-12 Math Education degree from Bethel University and an in-progress Master’s degree in Special Education. It is my sincere belief that learning begins in an environment where each student is known, valued, safe, and respected. With this foundation and AFSA’s experiential curriculum, I look forward to fostering students' growth as learners and as people through curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Other than teaching, I enjoy walking in nature, playing piano, cooking new recipes, and spending time with my friends and family.
