Agriculture Department
Agriculture Education
Agricultural education teaches students about agriculture, food and natural resources. Through these subjects, agricultural educators teach students a wide variety of skills, including science, math, communications, leadership, management, and technology.
Agricultural education is delivered through three interconnected components:
Classroom or laboratory instruction.
Experiential learning — Learning experiences that usually take place outside of the classroom, supervised by the agriculture instructor.
Leadership education — delivered through student organizations such as the National FFA Organization, the National Young Farmer Education Association, National Postsecondary Agricultural Student Organization and others.
Many high school agriculture programs use FFA to enhance the leadership and experiential learning portions of their program. To learn more about FFA and its influence on agricultural education, visit www.ffa.org.

Hi! I am Ms. Nelson and I am brand new to AFSA!
I am a first year teacher and I am so excited to be here, meet you and of course talk about the different avenues of agriculture!
I have lived in Wisconsin my whole life along with many teaching experiences. I graduated from UW-River falls in 2023 with a Degree in Agriculture Education and a minor in Animal Science. I went to high school at Osceola, WI and practically lived in the agricultural department there. Forever FFA and 4-H member until I graduated. Upon Graduation I was substitute for a year and a half. One substitution position was an elementary special education substitute which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I went to school to become an Agricultural educator because I have experienced first hand the lasting impact of agricultural education. Career skillsets, premier leadership, lifelong networking, various opportunities as well as positively changing communities are just a few of the many impacts FFA and agricultural education has made on me. I hope to pass these along to the next generation of students and difference makers.
Today, I love to do outside activities such as gardening, running, going to the gym and of course experience agriculture!
I can't wait to meet you and I look forward to this incoming 2025-2026 school year

Agriculture has always been a part of my life, from growing up with horses, to showing sheep in high school. Earning three degrees related to agriculture with a Masters in Agriculture Education in 2019 from the University of Wisconsin River Falls, has helped me discover a love for teaching. Teaching high school students about agriculture and helping them discover how agriculture impacts their daily life and how they truly are the future of agriculture is my passion. I joined the AFSA team in 2024 and have been amazed by the love and passion for agriculture and learning that the students of AFSA have. I am excited to continue to instill a love for learning and agriculture in all students and to help them find their passions, and future. Outside of teaching, I spend time with my family, pets, kayaking, hiking, reading, and exploring the world around me.
