Hi! My name is Josh Hoard, this is my 7th year as a teacher and my fourth year here at AFSA! I received my Bachelors Degree from Bethel University with a major in Physical Education and Health Education, while also earning my Developmental Adaptive Physical Education (DAPE) endorsement. In my classroom I believe in hands-on learning, authentic learning experiences, and creating a brave space for students. My goal as a teacher is to foster student interest, challenge their thinking, and show them all the amazing opportunities they have to keep themselves active and healthy. I look forward to meeting you all soon!
Laura Johansen

My name is Ms Johansen and I am the Elementary Agriculture teacher. I am a Minnesota native and
love to spend time outdoors. I love hiking, camping, and fishing, but also have indoor hobbies like
reading, writing, crafts, and playing board games (although I will do these outside if I am able).
Although this is my first year at AFSA Elementary, I have over 20 years of teaching experience. I have
taught all age levels from pre-k through high school; I have taught in all settings: suburban, rural, and
urban; and have taught in general education classrooms, multi-age classrooms, math specials, science
specials, and special education. I have eight years of charter school administration experience, but my
favorite place to be is in the classroom with kids. I am excited to be at AFSA teaching agriculture and
natural science, and cannot wait to take these kids on adventures both indoors and out.
Amanda Porter

Hello! My name is Amanda Porter, and I am returning for my 2nd year as the art teacher at AFSA Elementary! I bring with me over a decade of experience as a professional artist and arts organizer, a Bachelor's in Studio Art from Concordia University, and I am currently enrolled in a Masters of Teaching program at Augsburg University (go Auggies!). I am so excited to get to know and work with your artist! It's going to be a great year!
