Hi! My name is Josh Hoard, and this is my 6th year as a teacher and my third year here at AFSA! I received my Bachelors Degree from Bethel University with a major in Physical Education and Health Education, while also earning my Developmental Adaptive Physical Education (DAPE) endorsement. In my classroom I believe in hands-on learning, authentic learning experiences, and creating a brave space for students. My goal as a teacher is to foster student interest, challenge their thinking, and show them all the amazing opportunities they have to keep themselves active and healthy. I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two dogs Cable and Paxton, playing video games / card games with friends, reading comics, watching anime, and being active outside of the classroom. I look forward to meeting you all soon!
Amanda Porter
Art Teacher
Hello! My name is Amanda Porter, and I am thrilled to be joining the AFSA community for my first year as the elementary visual arts teacher! I bring over a decade of experience as a professional artist and arts organizer to the classroom, and recently went back to school to become a teacher (go Auggies!). It is my goal to have your learner thinking, acting and creating like an artist both in and out of the art room! When I’m not facilitating art with brilliant young artists, I can be found working on the potter’s wheel or painting in my home studio, or spending time outside with my dog, Turtle and my human, Tyler. I spent my summer fostering 7 kittens we found in our garden shed (Ralphie, Richard, Rudy, Hank, Bear, Dog and Rasputin), and my favorite color is magenta.
