AFSA Elementary Intervention

Kate Bald
Elementary Intervention Coordinator and Teacher on Special Assignment
I have been at AFSA since 2008. Since joining the AFSA family, I have worked as an educational assistant, a math teacher in grades 5-12, and a math interventionist. I have also served as a teacher mentor, school board member, and other leadership roles. This year, I am looking forward to the opportunity to support students in all aspects of their education. I love being a part of the AFSA community and look forward to sharing this passion with students and families.

Faith Holewa-Kvigne
Elementary Counselor
Ms. Faith graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Masters in Counselor Education and started her journey with AFSA in 2024. I work with students of all levels. I favor self-driven, solution-focused counseling, so that students can grow into strong advocates for themselves and others. I look forward to meeting with everyone this school year!

Ris Ma
Math Intervention
My name is Ris Ma and I am very excited to begin this school year as a math specialist. This will be my 3rd year at AFSA and first year as a math interventionist. I’ve been in the teaching field for 5 years, and every day I feel grateful to do what I love—creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment. Before joining AFSA, I taught 3rd grade at a charter school in Texas. I look forward to a great year of growth, collaboration, and success!

Casey Orr
Reading Intervention
Hello, my name is Casey Orr and I am the Reading Specialist here at AFSA Elementary! This is my sixth year of teaching and my first year here at AFSA. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Gustavus Adolphus College and am currently completing my master’s degree in Literacy Education at Hamline University. I have taught K-3rd grade and have multiple years of prior experience working in child care settings. I grew up right next door in Vadnais Heights, MN and am excited to be working so close to home. I believe that every child deserves access to evidence-based literacy instruction, which is why I ground my teaching in the science of reading. I am passionate about the doors reading can open for students and aim to provide differentiated instruction that meets the diverse needs of all learners. Above all, I want students not only to become skilled readers, but to develop a lifelong love of reading.
