My name is Michael Melling, and this is my 19th year as an educator and my 6th year at AFSA! I am teaching 5th and 6th grade for the second year. Prior to that, I taught 3rd and 4th grade at AFSA, so I know where students are coming from and how to help them finish their elementary journey with us.

I believe we learn best when we develop skills to direct our own learning, when we have choice in the topics and projects we pursue, and when we are encouraged to think deeply about our experiences and interact with our peers. I love teaching at AFSA where we can cultivate relevant skills and deep thinking about the real world around us. 

When I'm not at school, I am usually hanging out with my wife and six boys in western Wisconsin or working on a creative project around my house.

Hi Eagles! My name is Ms. Pasquesi, and I am so excited to begin my second year teaching at AFSA. I will be teaching English and Language Arts to our 5th and 6th grade students. I graduated from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and before coming to AFSA, I taught 5th grade in Inver Grove Heights.

One of my biggest passions as a teacher is building relationships and creating a classroom where every student feels seen, heard, and respected. I believe all students can learn; sometimes it just happens in different ways and at different times.

When I’m not in the classroom, I love going road biking, watching sports, and spending quality time with my little family.
