Hi everyone! I am Billie Borschnack and I will be teaching English and language arts and 6th grade math. I graduated from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2023. I have taught 5th grade in Inver Grove Heights, and I am very excited to teach both 5th and 6th graders this year at AFSA. 

I believe that all students can learn- just not on the same day or in the same way. My goal as a teacher is to ensure every student is seen, heard, and respected. 

My favorite hobbies include working at Starbucks, road biking, watching sports, and hanging out with my little family.

My name is Michael Melling, and this is my 19th year as an educator and my 6th year at AFSA! I am teaching 5th and 6th grade for the second year. Prior to that, I taught 3rd and 4th grade at AFSA, so I know where students are coming from and how to help them finish their elementary journey with us.

I believe we learn best when we develop skills to direct our own learning, when we have choice in the topics and projects we pursue, and when we are encouraged to think deeply about our experiences and interact with our peers. I love teaching at AFSA where we can cultivate relevant skills and deep thinking about the real world around us. 

When I'm not at school, I am usually hanging out with my wife and six boys in western Wisconsin or working on a creative project around my house.
