• Ms. Ashley Berens

    AFSA High School Special Education

Hello! I am Mrs. Berens, and I am very excited to be AFSA’s occupational therapist (OT) for grades K-12!  I earned my Bachelor of Science from the University of Northwestern, St. Paul in Kinesiology and received my Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.  I love being an OT and find great joy working with students of all ages. I believe relationship building and getting to know each student and their unique strengths is crucial to fostering skills which allow them greater success in their everyday activities at school.  Outside my time at AFSA I keep busy with my husband and four children, our dog Winston, and two cats Max and Kevin.  I also enjoy traveling, spending time outdoors, watching movies and crushing it on the volleyball court.

Hi, I'm Laurie Sherman.  I've been an educator for over 30 years in a variety of school settings and in a variety of positions, from educational assistant, to classroom teacher, to principal, to my current role at AFSA as a Special Education teacher.  I believe that all students can learn and it is my job to meet their differentiated learning needs and help them find success.  My hope is that I can do that with joy and some fun!
